Michael Buffer has the decision--Max Deluca and Marty Samon 119-109 Marcus Rosales 120-108. OSCAR DE LA HOYA WINS BY UNANIMOUS DECISION. No knockout but Oscar dominated throughout, dictating the tempo, backing Forbes up, throwing more punches and more damaging punches. Couldn't have been a more one sided fight...
Larry Merchant talking to Oscar now, DLH gives shout outs to East L.A. Gives props to Stevie Forbes for being a tough guy. He's a little disappointed by no KO, but otherwise happy. Oscar says that he's going to fight Mayweather in this style in the rematch, which might make for a more entertaining fight but probably won't change the outcome. Oscar says he's going to fight Mayweather again in September and then a "retirement match" in December.
That's it for tonight's Oscar De La Hoya/Steve Forbes coverage. Visit our MMA website--THE SAVAGE SCIENCE--for the best coverage and commentary on the sport.

Forbes' corner tells him to let his hands go and he does that at the start of the round. No real damage though and Oscar now backing Forbes up with his jab. DLH's jab pushes Forbes back in the corner. Combination by Forbes lands, but it only gets a response by Oscar so Forbes ends up getting the worst of it. Oscar now on the offensive, backing Forbes up with his jab. Left hook rocks Forbes. Combination by DLH, Forbes covers up and backs away. Forbes eats about the millionth jab of the fight. Fans booing, presumably due to no knockout but they've seen a masterful performance by Oscar with a half minute left. Oscar lands a couple of good punches against the ropes but Forbes ties up. Oscar gets the best of a barrage to end the round as the fight ends. 10-9 DLH, Oscar wins the fight on my card going away, 119-109 , 11 rounds to one Oscar De La Hoya...we'll be back with the official decision

Fighters touch gloves as round 11 begins. DLH coming forward behind the jab again. Pace slows from the 10th. DLH at this point seems content to run out the clock. He's bouncing on his feet and looks fresh but appears to be taking this round off somewhat. On the other hand, Forbes hasn't done much either. Oscar letting his hands go now in response to a Forbes flurry. A minute left now, with no conclusive punches landed by either fighter. Forbes has been the busier fighter and that might get him the round. DLH with a combination and is stalking Forbes again. DLH doubling and tripling up his jab and then opens a barrage on Forbes as the round draws to a close. Tougher round to score--Forbes was the busier fighter but Oscar's did the most damage. I'll give it to Forbes 10-9, DLH leads 109-100, 10 rounds to 1 on my card.

Forbes tries a jab, but DLH responds quickly. Lederman has the fight 89-82 eight rounds to one. Forbes lands a nice flurry that has DLH covering up. Another nice flurry by Forbes but DLH comes back. Bodyshot by Oscar. Nice combination by Oscar back s Forbes up and he's eating a ton of punches and finally responds with a rally but no real damage and Oscar ties him up. Forbes has a solid chin, that's for sure. Previous slugfest gets the crowd excited. DLH much busier down the stretch, and he takes yet another round. 10-9 Oscar, he leads in the fight 100-90

Round 9 underway, same as the previous round with Oscar coming forward slowly behind his left jab. Nice flurry by DLH set up by the jab lands. Forbes lands a jab but eats a flurry in response that causes Forbes to cover up. Everytime Forbes tries to do something offensively Oscar responds with a barrage. Forbes completely on the defensive backing up as DLH comes forward with the jab. Oscar misses with a big punch as the round ends but he wins 10-9, leads the fight 90-81

Slow pace at the start of the round with Oscar still controlling the tempo with his jab. Forbes trying a jab and a hook now and then but not doing any significant damage. Fighters trade punches with no damage by either. Oscar still coming forward behind that wicked jab and then lands three hard left hooks to the body. Forbes throwing tentative punches every now and then but DLH has him totally out of sync. Round 8 ends, another 10-9 DLH round he's up in the fight 80-72

Lederman has it 5 rounds to 1 and Forbes leading with his nasty jab to begin the round. Combination by DLH causes Forbes to cover up but no real damage done. DLH doubling and tripling up the jab then starts a wicked combination with an uppercut. Forbes still landing some punches, but Oscar is landing the more damaging punches. Overhand right by Oscar. More jabs by Oscar. Oscar's pace has slowed down this round, but Forbes still doing nothing. Left hook to the body by Oscar. Nice combination against the ropes wobbles Forbes and he comes close to going down for the first time in his career. He recovers for the moment and nothing significant happens as the round ends. 10-9 DLH again, leads in the fight 70-63

Lederman gave the last round to Forbes though I don't see it. Forbes connects with a nice combination but no real damage. DLH responds with a flurry and the two fighters trade left hooks, DLH misses with an uppercut then back to the jab. DLH slows the pace and goes back to the jab. That keeps Forbes backing up until he responds with a decent flurry. Oscar doubling and tripling up his jab followed by a left hook by Oscar and a huge flurry that rocks Forbes but he doesn't go down. Forbes' eye is now cut, no head butt apparent so it was likely Oscar's left jab doing the damage. Forbes responds with a few punches, but no real damage. Oscar pops Forbes with a hard jab and then another. Forbes eats a one two that may have stunned Forbes momentary as the round ends. Another Oscar round 10-9, he leads in the fight 60-54.

Round begins with another series of DLH jabs that backs Forbes up. Nice one two by DLH partially connects. DLH fighting at a more measured pace now, Forbes adapting nicely and responds with a jab of his own. DLH up on his feet and Forbes still on the defensive. Oscar stalking Forbes around the ring. Forbes connects with a jab only to eat a combination by Oscar. Another flawless combination by DLH. Forbes flurries but Oscar blocks with his arms. DLH pace slows but he still keeps sticking that nasty jab. Oscar flurries against the ropes and Forbes feels it. Forbes misses with a wild punch as the round ends. Another DLH round 10-9, he's leading the fight 50-45

Round 4 begins with Lamps going over the one sided Compubox numbers, then throws it down to Lederman who has the fight scored the same way I do. Nice series of jabs by DLH, followed by a decent flurry by Forbes. Merchant suggesting that Forbes wants to turn the fight into a brawl. Nice combination to the head and body by Oscar. Flurry by Forbes mostly blocked. Halfway through the round and DLH's face is reddening somewhat. Nothing serious, but he's getting hit. Oscar with a nice flurry and misses with an uppercut that would have taken Forbes' head off. Oscar coming forward flurrys again to the head and body against the ropes. Forbes trying to showboat and I'm not sure that tyring to show up Oscar in his hometown is the way I'd approach it. DLH working the jab again and scoring with a combination as the round ends. Again, Forbes doesn't fight a bad round but Oscar wins it 10-9 and he leads 40-36 in the fight.

Fighters meet in the middle, Oscar teases a jab but doesn't commit. Momentary breakup in the picture and when we come back Oscar is doing the same thing mixing up the jab and bodyshots. Flurry of bodyshots by DLH followed by the jab. He's getting off a punch every now and then but he's spending 80% of the round on the defensive. Overhand right partially connects for Forbes. Forbes coming forward a little better now but he has no answer for the wicked DLH jab. Oscar still moving well and sure doesn't look his age. Fighters exchange bodyshots in the center, with no conclusive result. DLH throws a few jabs as the round ends. Better round for Forbes, but still DLH's round 10-9, he leads 30-27 in the fight.

Oscar comes forward with his nasty jab followed by a 1-2 which connects. Pretty much the same strategy at the outset with DLH mixing up the jabs and bodyshots nicely. Oscar opening a can of whoop as he lets his hands go and Forbes just covers up. Forbes responds with a nice left hook of his own. DLH tries to slow down the pace and start working the jab again. DLH throwing that jab back in his face now, then doubling it up. Several right hooks to the body and then back to the jab. Looks like Forbes' nose may be bleeding. DLH working the jab again. Bodyshot followed by an overhand right then back to the jab. Nice combination by Oscar. Forbes lands a right hook on the break, but at the bell its another DLH round. Round 2 10-9 DLH, he leads in the fight 20-18

Round 1 underway, the two fighters circle each other tentatively in the ring. Larry Merchant points out that Forbes has never been knocked down during his 11 year career. Oscar and Forbes trade jabs that don't connect, DLH doubles up a jab followed by a body shot. Nice flurry by Forbes which Oscar answers with a flurry of his own. Oscar needs to get back into a jabbing rhythm which is isn't doing so far. Oscar is working to the body nicely and he's a solid body puncher. Oscar jabbing more now mixing it up with his right hooks to the body. Nice stiff jab by DLH knocks Forbes back a bit. Oscar moving forward, still mixing up jabs and bodyshots. Jab and bodyshot by Forbes, blocked by Oscar. Forbes misses with an uppercut. Forbes eats another jab followed by a couple of solid overhad rights. Forbes lands a left hook and another to finish the round well, but too little too late as DLH takes it. Round one goes 10-9 Oscar De La Hoya...

Is about to get underway...I'm at my position and am getting everything ready to go. OK, we're ready to rock. At the moment you're not missing anything. Larry Merchant, who's wearing a stylish beige suit and white spread color shirt, is interviewing Oscar. At the moment they're talking about Golden Boy Promotions and how they're going to develop young stars after DLH retires. They're back live and Lamps is pointing out all of the celebs--the guy that plays Eric Murphy on Entourage is in the house, as is an actress who did a cameo role on Entourage, Brooke Shields. Sly Stallone is there, Sugar Ray Leonard and Bernard Hopkins. Merchant is now explaining how Steve Forbes got the gig to fight Oscar here tonight. They now move to Manny Steward, who suggests that Forbes at least has a chance though Oscar has set it up to give him all of the advantages. Manny says DLH wants to make a statement tonight.
They throw it up to Michael Buffer who's introducing a mariachi band to play the Mexican national anthem. Big "Cazadores" tequila logo in the middle of the ring and a good sized "Affliction" logo beneath that which no doubt has Dana White at home in Las Vegas gnashing his teeth and spewing "F-bombs". They show some backstage footage of DLH getting his gloves taped looking very calm. OK, the Mexican national anthem is done and we'll get the US anthem performed by Nicole Sherzinger, who's apparently with "The Pussycat Dolls". You think so close to Hollywood they'd be able to get someone a little higher up the celebrity food chain. Nicole is doing the "make it all dramatic" version of the anthem and getting booed, either because the fans are heavily Mexican or because they think she sucks. She's not *that* bad but she should have done a little quicker arrangement. Despite her apparent belief to the contrary, the assembled 27,000 or so isn't in attendance to watch her perform. Dramatic pause of about a minute between the final two lines, along with holding the last "wave" for another minute. At least she's had the courtesy to wear a low cut top which displays her only real "talents". Fans give her a sarcastic pop at the end, and we're back to Lampley who's running over the tale of the tape. Oscar has a 3 inch height advantage, 1 1/2 each reach advantage. Lederman is going over the rules of the California State Athletic Commission--pretty much the same as the unified rules with the exception that you *can* be saved by the bell in the final round.
Steve Forbes comes to the ring first to the curious but somewhat cool choice of "Sweet Dreams are Made of These" by Eurythmics. Forbes is actually a native of Portland, OR and was discovered by the feudin' Mayweather family. He's a huge underdog at +1501, with Oscar a -1700 favorite. Fans give him perfunctory boos, but they don't really have anything against Forbes so it doesn't last long. The story is that Forbes was supposed to be trained by Roger Mayweather until Floyd Jr. put the kibosh on that. He ended up being trained by Jeff Mayweather, the less known and most stable of the clan. Forbes is in the ring now and he looks loose since he clearly has nothing to lose.
Oscar comes to the ring now playing some disco song that I don't know. I was going to say that he's coming to the ring playing "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport" but I didn't think you'd believe it. Forbes looks at the crowd wondering where the hell Oscar is. OK, here comes Oscar down the dressing room corridor wearing a blue robe trimmed with orange around the collar and orange gloves. Music changes to some mariachi thing and the crowd is pumped to see the legit legend enter the stadium. Six world titles in six different weight classes doesn't suck. He's also become the undisputed champion of financial success by a boxer, owning a ton of real estate in L.A. in addition to Golden Boy promotions. He's got a nine figure ATM balance which also doesn't suck. Lamps makes a lame reference to the "Summer of Love" in NorCal back during the time when hippies roamed the earth. Buffer starts to give the intro and is now running down the sponsor list. Buffer, always the classy guy, doesn't make the faux pas of wearing a tux outside in the evening and instead opts for a stylish black suit with black tie and white shirt. Ref is Raul Caiz, Jr which gives Buffer an opportunity to trill his "r's" which he does better than any white man on the planet.
Forbes gets intro'd first and hears it from the crowd. He's introduced as hailing from Portland, OR despite the fact that he now lives in Las Vegas. Oscar's intro'd next and gets a nice response. Ref gives the instructions and we're set to go....

GEORGES ST. PIERRE VS. MATT SERRA ROUND 2
Nice job so far by KFlo staying neutral even though he's boys with Serra. GSP with a punch followed by a single leg takedown. GSP has him against the cage with some mauling and punching--nothing serious yet but they're taking a toll. GSP goes for another takedown blocked by Serra. Back to standup now. Spinning back kick attempt for GSP misses. GSP using his superior reach and jabbing like a maniac. GSP with another takedown after Serra ate a half dozen or so hard jabs. Back against the cage with Serra covering up in a ball and GSP throwing punches at the back of his head. GSP passes guard and continues to throw some hard punches from the top. Serra turning over covering up looking at the clock. GSP back in top mount, now Serra rolls over again and gets pounded on the back of his head again. Serra doesn't look to be hurt but he's not doing anything either other than eating punches. Serra turns over and eats punches. More knees and punches before ref Yves Lavigne stops the contest...Dominant performance by GSP, with Serra never showing any offense at all.
WINNER BY TKO AND NEW UFC WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION GEORGES ST. PIERRE
Serra showing some class by picking GSP up after the fight. As much as I get the prefight verbal back and forth for promotional purposes, its nice to see the respect displayed after the bout. GSP simply in unbeatable form at the moment. Serra looks like he caught a beating and mugs for the camera. GSP is stoked as he gets the championship belt around his waist. Classy display by GSP bowing to Serra, shaking his hand and hugging him before he leaves the ring. KFlo mentioned it during the fight, but GSP may be the best wrestler in the sport right now. He doesn't have the fanciest pedigree, but he dominated a 4 time all American in Koscheck, a former champion known for his wrestling ability in Hughes, and now a BJJ black belt in Serra.
GSP in his postfight gives the crowd a speech in French, and then gives Serra some more props. More class from GSP telling the Bell Centre crowd that he and Serra may go out and have a drink tonight, but if they see him out and about to give him respect. Serra interviewed now and his eyes look wicked. He looks like he got popped across the eyes with a ball bat. Serra gives GSP props, says he's going to take his wife on vacation and appears to have turned the crowd who give him a nice round of applause. Dana White consoles Serra with some words of wisdom like "You're a f*cking tough SOB to take such a nasty f*cking beating".
Good job on commentary by KFlo in relief of Joe Rogan, and generally a good card all around. Really the only half assed performance was turned in by Kalib Starnes, and it wasn't the fault of his opponent Nate Quarry...
Anyway, thanks as always for joining us for the UFC 83 round by round. They're doing this matchup breakdown and KFlo gives the edge to Serra 3 checks to 2. I'm having a hard time pulling myself away from the "Free sexy webcam girls on Zango" ad on the on205th main page. OK, I'll get back to work....main event up next and you'll have no problem figuring out who the fan favorite is. GSP in the dressing room doing some Jean Claude Van Damme looking warm ups to impress us with his flexibility. They're showing the video recap now of the Serra/GSP backstory. Paulie Walnuts Jr. says that all of the love shown to GSP before their fight pissed him off. My biggest concern about Serra is that he hasn't fought *since* he beat GSP. GSP has looked incredible in two fights since then. They reiterate Serra's great "F-you, go drink some wine and watch a hockey game" blast. Video montage ends and we're ready to go...
GSP comes out first to some hip hop song and a huge response from the crowd. No "Afflictions" are visible on GSP's gi so maybe the UFC has banned them from display. GSP looks focused as hell and runs to the cage ignoring the fans glad handing. GSP is in sick shape as always--he may be the best conditioned fighter in any combat sport. GSP bows to the fans and does a little "I want zee belt" gesture before entering the cage. Thankfully his shorts aren't as tight as usual--or maybe they don't look as tight since they're black. Either way, I can't see his package so I'm happy about that. GSP looks ready to rock and here comes Matt Serra. The boos start right when the lights are dimmed, and he's going to hear it from this MTL crowd. Bad hip hop "Rocky" theme song for his ring entrance music. He looks confident in his usual "pay your bookie or I'll break your legs" way. He's getting as much of a heel reaction as back in the day when Abdullah the Butcher or The Sheik would come in to fight Dino Bravo or the Rougeau Brothers. Serra hugs his homeboy KFlo on the way in. Bruce Buffer gets set to make the ring announcement and we'll be ready to rock...
Credit to Serra for being cool about the "heel reaction" from the Montreal crowd. Serra has an outfit called "GunsAmerica" as one of his sponsors. Win or lose, GSP is just an ungodly athlete. He's getting intro'd first and hearing the love from the crowd which he's too focused to acknowldge. Serra hearing the boos and holding up two fingers to the camera.
GSP takes Serra down immediately into half guard. He's pounding punches through Serra's guard. GSP close to getting side control but Serra defending well so far. GSP could be trying to make it a war of attrition and let his superior condition work to his advantage. GSP raining down some solid punches on Serra. Serra's defending well but GSP dominating so far. Forearm/elbow strike to Serra. GSP's movement on the ground has been excellent so far, using his long legs and height to his advantage. GSP has Serra's back now and is taking hammer fists to the back of the head. Serra tries to get back to his feet but GSP pulls him down. GSP in control, Serra has a welt under his eye. Back to standup now, but GSP takes him down again. GSP throws some more punches to the back of Serra's noggin before the round ends. Excellent round for GSP--you could make a case for a 10-8 round with two takedowns and total control but I'm going to call it 10-9.

SUBMIT TO fark | digg | showhype | yardbarker | ballhypeRICH FRANKLIN V. TRAVIS LUTTER ROUND 2
Franklin defending the takedowns at the start of round 1 and pops him with a knee going out, Lutter takes a leg kick and looks to be on the verge of finishing the fight. Shades of Brock Lesnar/Frank Mir as Lutter grabs Franklin's leg and goes for another submission. Franklin now unloading with punches and knees. Lutter looks exhausted and Franklin is making like Anderson Silva throwing elbows, knees and punches from the clinch. Lutter now on the ground grabbing on to Franklin's leg but to no avail. Back to standup and Goldberg is speculating that Lutter may be too tired to use his BJJ. Franklin so much better conditioned while Lutter is gassed. Franklin unloading a barrage and he rolls up in a ball on the canvas before the ref stops it. Nice job by Rich Franklin, particularly in taking away Lutter's ground fighting and submission strengths.
RICH FRANKLIN WINS BY TKO
Lutter's face looks like its been hit by a 2x4 and Franklin looks pretty fresh. Lutter can barely make it out for the official call of the fight. Franklin's shirt doing a good job of defending Rich's efforts to pull it on. Funny line by Franklin that when he was in the arm bar he was "trying to develop a false sense of confidence in Lutter". Franklin disses Lutter's lack of conditioning, but almost seems embarassed to mention it. Franklin has his flaws as a fighter, but he's always in sick shape. Franklin giving props to the Canadian crowd, thanks them for not booing him at the weigh in since they "booed everyone who's not Canadian". KFlo drops a "Jim Carrey" blast on Frankin, suggesting that since Carrey is Canadian the crowd gave him a pass. Franklin looks unamused. Rich gives props to Cincinnati, the sponsors, the trainers and God before leaving the cage.
Main event up next....

Between fights they showed Forrest Griffin sitting at ringside wearing a Montreal Canadians jersey. Can't say he doesn't know how to curry favor with the fans. Some apparent ill will between Rich Franklin and Lutter, at least based on the prefight promo videos. Big fight for Franklin if he wants to get back in championship contention. Lutter starts the fight at a disadvantage, pulling out a Nickelback song ("Rock Star") as his entrance music. If Franklin uses his traditional music it could be a 10-8 win for Franklin in the ring entrance music competition.
Joe Calzaghe has defeated Bernard Hopkins by split decision...here's the scores:
114-113 Hopkins
115-112 Calzaghe
116-111 Calzaghe
I haven't been watching the fight, so that's all I know....
Yep...Rich is coming to the cage using his traditional entrance music choice of "For Those About To Rock" by AC/DC. In a perfect world, the fight would be over at this point and ruled a stopage win for Franklin due to superior ring entrance music. Fans showing Rich love but he looks focused as hell. Maybe its because I've been looking for them more than usual, but I haven't seen any "Affliction" logos so far. GSP has recently been wearing an "Affliction" branded gi to the ring so keep your eyes out for that. Goldberg repeats a line that someone used about Franklin earlier in his career that he looks like "an angry Jim Carey".
I sure miss hearing Bruce Buffer boom out the Mickey's Fine Malt Liquor catch phrase "Get Stung". Lutter getting the heat from the crowd, which isn't surprising since Franklin is just so damn likable. I mentioned Kalib Starnes lack of ink in the last fight, but Franklin doesn't roll with any tats either. I don't think Lutter does either.
Fight underway and Franklin throws a couple of jabs while Lutter goes for a single leg takedown. Franklin catches him with a knee coming in but Lutter appears to be OK. Lutter has Franklin against the cage still working the takedown. Lutter now has Franklin's back. Franklin trying to get out and so far has blocked the attempt for a rear naked choke. Franklin gets out of that predictament only to find Lutter in side control. Franklin doing a good job defending but he's having to expend a lot of energy keeping Lutter at bay. Nice guard by Franklin so far, but now Lutter passes and is in top mount throwing some hard punches. Lutter rolls into an arm bar but somehow spins out of it. Franklin is a BJJ brown belt, and he's showing some nice skills. Lutter trying for a takedown and Franklin sprawls to defend it nicely. Franklin pounding Lutter as he tries for the takedown. Lutter holding on to Franklin's leg like a pit bull on a pork chop, but Franklin defending very well. The round ends before Lutter can get the takedown. Good defensive effort by Franklin, but you've got to give the round to Lutter since he controlled the tempo and almost had Franklin submitted. 10-9 Lutter

Round three underway and Starnes steps up the pace with a few kicks, but nothing significant lands. Quarry doing the same thing as in the previous two rounds, and Starnes still "sparring" more than fighting. Quarry still keeping up his offense, as he wants the stoppage. Starnes is absorbing a lot of punishment, but doing nothing to return fire. KFlo suggests that Quarry tie him up and use some knees on his opponent. KFlo has done a decent job on commentary tonight. Another nice combination by Quarry and Starnes backs up. KFlo notes that Starnes switched his stance to protect his lead leg which has been the target of relentless kicks. Goldberg now suggesting that Starnes "may be ill". He'll no doubt find himself the target of an "F-bomb" laced tirade from Dana White after this listless performance. More kicks and punches by Quarry and he's chasing Starnes around the ring again. Quarry taunting his opponent for running around more than fighting as the round ends. If this is anything other than a unanimous 30-27 decision for Quarry its a robbery.
Kalib Starnes all pissed off at Quarry for taunting him, and won't shake his hands. Audible "f-bombs" being hurled back and forth. Now Starnes shakes hands and hugs his opponent. Sad when a fighter shows more fire and intensity postfight than during the fight. Starnes getting booed mercilessly by his "hometown" fans. 30-26, 30-27, 30-24. That 30-24 is harsh, but I can't say that three 10-8 rounds are unjustified with one fighter putting on an impressive performance and the other guy running and not having an interest in competing.

Round 2 underway now--unless I'm missing something Starnes may be the only remaining fighter in MMA without a tattoo. More of the same so far, with Quarry mixing in a few leg kicks set up by his technical boxing display. I've mentioned on numerous occasions that if an otherwise solid MMA fighter would develop some boxing skills--defense, learning to throw a jab--they'd elevate themselves to the next level. Good example of that here. Fans starting to boo the lack of offense from Starnes. More punches and a kick by Quarry, with Starnes backing up. Starnes acting like he's never seen a boxer before. Starnes throws a leg kick, which misses but may be the only real offense he's generated. Quarry has slown down a little bit, but still dominating the fight. Wicked leg kick by Quarry hurts Starnes followed by another. Starnes grabs the leg and takes him down, but Quarry gets back up. Starnes' has shown a little more offense, but nothing significant. KFlo says that Starnes looks like he "lacks intensity" and that he's acting more like a sparring partner. More kicks and punches by Quarry. Fans throwing out a "boring" chant, directed more at Starnes' lack of enthusiasm than anything else. Another easy round by Quarry: 10-9, he leads in the fight 20-18
