While Joe Theismann's leg breaking was gruesome, and Eduardo da Silva's ugly, neither of them were faced with what Austrian skier Matthias Lanzinger is facing. Lanzinger will have his lower left leg amputated due to complications after breaking his shin bones at a crash in Sunday's World Cup super-G in Norway. Here's the crash...
The double fracture severely damaged blood vessels which hampered blood circulation in the leg of the 27-year-old.
The Austrian ski federation said Tuesday that surgery on Monday night at a hospital in Oslo was only partly successful and left doctors no other option than an amputation to avoid further health risks.
Note to self: Stay on the kiddie slopes.
