Memories of Clint Malarchuk... Zednik slashed in the neck

Bringing back the haunting memory of Clint Malarchuk almost dying on the ice when he was slashed in the neck by a skate blade, tonight Richard Zednik was accidentally cut by the skate of Olli Jokinen, severing his jugular. The game was delayed for more than 15 minutes as the blood was cleaned off the ice. The good news, as of this posting, is that Zednik is in stable condition at a Buffalo hospital after surgery. This is the second time in less than a week that a participant in an NHL game has sustained a cut from a skate blade as just two days ago linesman Pat Dapuzzo suffered an injury from a skate blade that resulted in a broken jaw and 60 stitches.
